About Well Drilling Cost Wise

Well Drilling Cost Wise is an independent, consumer-first guide to what drilling and owning a private water well really costs in the United States. It is written and maintained by Andrea.

Most 'cost' pages online give vague ranges or exist mainly to hand you off to a contractor. The goal here is the opposite: honest cost ranges — especially per foot and total by depth — the factors that actually move the price, and a free estimator so you walk into any quote already informed.

Every figure on this site is a general estimate that varies by region, depth, geology and rock, diameter, casing, pump and tank, and permits. We are not drillers, engineers, insurers, lawyers, or doctors, and no one can guarantee hitting water or a specific yield — always get three quotes from licensed local well-drilling contractors and check your local permit and water rules before committing.

Private well water is not regulated like city water. We consistently recommend testing your water (bacteria, nitrates, arsenic and more) through a state-certified lab per EPA and local health department guidance before drinking. Have a correction or a real-world price to share? We update these ranges as the market shifts and welcome feedback from homeowners and contractors alike.
